Clay

We started off by learning the necessary vocabulary for clay making. Then we read a story about Johnny Appleseed. Then pur teachers walked us step-by-step through how to make a apple pinch pot out of air dry clay. We started off by rolling and getting the air out of our handfull of clay. Then we started to pinch and smooth our clay into a bowl. We pulled the top in to make the shape of the apple. After that we learned how to make our stem and leaf. We learned how to score and attach out stem and leaf. Once all of that was completed we painted our apple accordingly and filled out an exit ticket explaing the techniques we used.

Extension Activity:

I think it would be cool to pair with a writing project about themselves. They could create a pinch pot in the shape of a heart. They would thne paint it and design it. Once the pot was finsihed and dry they would put three things in it from home that a near and dear to their heart. They would then write about the objects and present it to the class.
