We started off by learning the necesary vocabulary for printmaking. Then the teachers showed us their examples and we were told to draw on our precut paper a scene of our choice. Then we were given a styrofoam piece, the same size as our paper. Then we stacked our paper on top of our styrofoam and traced our scene once or twice, pressing hard. Then after that we took off our paper and retraced the scene on our styrofoam piece, making sure the indentations were defined. Then we were split up into pairs and headed to our printamaking stations. We gathered around our teacher to watch them demonstrate how to use our tools. Then we split back off to make our own print using our styrofoam piece. We coated it in ink and then pressed it onto a piece of paper. After rolling it we peeled up the styrofoam to reveal the print. We made two prints and turned in our best.
Extension Activity:
It could be cool to read a story that has lot of pictures... or discriptive words. Then asign the students to a certain part of the book. Each student would design and print their assigned scene from the book. They then would add one sentence about what is happening in their scene. The teacher could then collect the prints and put them together to make the classes version of the story!
