The Hidden Safari was a very fun project to see come to life. First we reviewed warm and cool colors and taked about how they work together. To make the Hidden Safari we learned how to draw upside down. First starting with a worksheet to practice these skills. Before starting the actual drawing we cut out the mask shape and glued a piec of red plastic to it. We then set that aside to dry. Then we chose a safari animal to draw... using the upside down drawing technique in blue (a cool color). Then after completing the drawing we went over it in warm colored patterns. We had to choose three different shapes or patterns to go over the drawing. After everything was completed we were able to hold up the mask and look through the red plastic and filter out the chaotic patterns to see the animal we drew. We then wrote three hints about our animal to glue to the bottom of the project.
Extension activity:
This would be a cool project to incorperate a video safari song for the students to be active with. They can dance and sing to the video/song and then they could then draw one of the animals they saw in the safari video.
